FPCU Helps Students Return to Learn During Pandemic

Financial Plus Credit Union is continuing its annual tradition of helping Des Moines area elementaries with a donation of school supplies.

Knowing this year looked different with COVID-19 playing a factor in what schools need to stay safe, the credit union wanted to help DSMPS coordinators obtain both pandemic-specific items as well as the typical school supplies needed for students in local districts.

Over 3,000 items were donated to six schools: Moulton, Samuelson, Lovejoy, Weeks, Monroe and Capitol View. Pandemic-specific items included “wobble chairs” — 60 in total — enough to supply two schools K-3rd grade classrooms. These chairs will help young students appropriately space out. Additional pandemic-specific items included hundreds of containers and gallon jugs of hand sanitizers and classroom cleaning supplies. Other supplies donated included binders, folders, notebooks, pencils, markers, scissors, highlighters, glue sticks and more.

“As a member-owned financial cooperative, we are always looking for ways to better serve our members and our communities,” said Dave Cale, President and CEO of Financial Plus. “We couldn’t think of a better way to help our communities during this trying year than to supply the schools with the items they need most during the pandemic.”

The donation totaled over $6,500 and will benefit over 3,000 students and teachers.

I am impressed and proud of FPCU helping the students of Des Moines, especially in these hard times of COVID-19.
