FPCU Helps Students Return to School

As a member-owned financial cooperative, Financial Plus is always looking for ways to better serve our members and our communities. That is why the credit union chose to continue its annual tradition of providing Des Moines area schools with a large donation of school supplies to help them prepare for the new year.

With COVID-19 playing a factor in students' return to learn plans for the second year in a row, FPCU wanted to help DSMPS coordinators obtain both pandemic-specific items as well as the typical school supplies needed for students in local districts.

In total, over 6,500 items were donated to six schools: Hoyt, Weeks, Goodrell, Hiatt and McCombs. Pandemic-specific items included individual hand sanitizers, Clorox Wipes and individual Kleenex. Regular supplies donated included:

  • Over 2,600 pens and pencils

  • 550+ folders

  • 425+ packages of crayons, colored pencils and markers

  • 425+ notebooks

  • 300+ glue sticks

  • 260 + pencil sharpeners

  • 165+ rulers

  • 160+ pairs of scissors

  • 130+ book bags

  • Many calculators, pencil boxes/pouches, binders, packages of paper/graph paper, erasers, protractors, dry erase markers and MORE!

This donation was made possible by very generous staff and FPCU members, who donated over $2,000 in supplies. FPCU matched that for a total contribution of over $4,000. The donation will benefit almost 4,000 students and teachers this school year!
